Project Coordination App
During my first iteration of the Bachelor of Innovation Teams course, my team worked with TLC Unlimited LLC, a company in the Virgin Islands that worked to rebuild the islands after natural disasters. Run by just two people, TLC Unlimited came to the BI program looking for help with their marketing strategy.
While speaking to the clients about the challenges they face with their work, they expressed how challenging it is to delegate FEMA work orders to subcontractors and organize job information when the island no longer has reliable internet. Our team saw an opportunity, and decided to split off into sub-teams with the first working on TLC Unlimited’s marketing, and the other designing a solution to the challenges they presented.
As part of the second sub-team, I helped design an application that allowed TLC Unlimited to keep their job records organized and communicate with subcontractors to issue tasks. While internet connectivity remains an issue, the app would be populated with wi-fi hotspot locations that likely had a connection. My role in the project was to design the UI and use my previous app development experience to lead the other team members in planning the backend design.
At the end of the semester, we presented TLC with a design plan outlining all of the required features and recommended technologies. We then recommended the company continue the work with another Bachelor of Innovation team in the following semester.
